Folic acid why do we use that during our pregnancy? What does that do to you and your baby? Can not you really do without? Do you have to swallow it or can you also ingest it via food? Quietly, I tell you all.
Folic acid what is that?
Folic acid is a vitamin from the vitamin B family. This club of vitamins is responsible for proper functioning of the digestion, immune system and the production and transport of blood. Folic acid is also called Vitamin B11, which is very important in general growth processes and the production of red and white blood cells.
It also contributes to the development of your baby's nervous system and reduces the chance of birth defects. Folic acid why do we use that? Because it is therefore very important for the development of your unborn baby!
Did you know that alcohol disrupts folic acid intake?
Folic acid why do we use that when you are pregnant?
Because we generally get too little folic acid. There is a deficiency of folic acid. That is because it is difficult to get enough through natural nutrition. This is especially annoying if you are pregnant and want to provide enough folic acid for your baby, as well as for your baby.
If you are pregnant, you can use some extra folic acid. We therefore also call folic acid pregnancy vitamins. We store folic acid in our liver and that holds it for about 5 weeks for you as stock. So you can build up a stock.
Side effects folic acid? They are not there. Everything that you do not need, that you pee out again.
It is recommended to take 400 milligrams of folic acid per day!
Folic acid pregnancy, before and after
Even if you are trying to become pregnant, folic acid is very important. At least 4 weeks before fertilization it is advisable to start with folic acid supplements. That is of course not time to start so just start right after you stopped taking the pill. The advice of the nutrition center is to take folic acid tablets during the first 10 weeks of your pregnancy (and the four before). After that, according to the center, it is no longer necessary.
I think differently and advise you to take a vitamin B complex. Really, if you are pregnant you can use those extra vitamins. I myself swallowed 400 milligrams of folic acid, 1000 milligrams of Vitamin C and a 500 milligram of Multivitamin (with the full vitamin B complex) during my entire pregnancy every day during my entire pregnancy. I now only swallow the folic acid. Are you going to breastfeed? Then I would definitely do it!
Vitamin C promotes the absorption of folic acid in the body!
What is folic acid in?
It goes without saying that with the right diet you also get folic acid. However, if you want to reach the recommended amount of 400mg per day, you have to eat a lot of unhealthy food. Huh? Yes you read that well.
Folic acid is naturally high in dosage, mainly in liver, pate and liver sausage. I do not have to explain that those animal fats are unhealthy. However, for pregnant women, liver is extra bad because of the high Vitamin A content. Not a good idea. Then eat wholemeal products and green vegetables, those are foods with folic acid. Remember that you have to eat a lot of (6 kilos of broccoli) daily to get 400 mg of folic acid. And with that a lot of fiber, and drink plenty of water, of course!
