Children from 0 years to 4 years old can join the consultation office justly. Here the growth, development and health of your baby are monitored. The consultation office is also the place where your baby receives the vaccinations.
In the first months you will visit once a month, then it will be every 2 to 3 months. Do you have questions about the upbringing or feeding of your child? You can also go there. The clinic is completely free. Read more about the activities of the clinic.
When contact with consultation office?
The health center will contact you in the first week after the birth of your little one. You do not have to do anything for this, except to declare your baby to the municipality. Then the consultation office will receive a notification of this and they will contact you yourself. Handy, right?
During the first contact you have a short introduction and your baby gets the heel prick. At least: if you agree with this. In the second week after the birth, a home visit is planned again. During this visit the acquaintance is central and the youth nurse will explain to you what the consultation office can do for you. You also receive a growth cookie. In this booklet you can keep an eye on the growth of your baby. Take it with you every visit.
Tasks of the consultation office
The consultation office is an institution that is part of youth health care. It is aimed at providing basic care to children between 0 and 4 years old. The tasks of each health center are the same as these tasks are legally established.
- Follow the health and development of children between 0 and 4 years old
- Identifying problems in the area of health and development
- Taking care of vaccinations of the National Vaccination Program
- Provide information and advice on growth, development, education and nutrition
- Refer possibly to other emergency services
Who works at the clinic?
Each consultation office has at least one consultation doctor, a youth nurse and an assistant. The consultation doctor is a medical doctor or a special youth doctor. The youth nurse has followed a college education to nursing and probably also followed a follow-up study for youth health. Everyone will work to monitor and assess the growth, development and health of your baby.
The doctor will focus more on the medical side. The nurse will also discuss the education and nutrition with you. At each visit the growth (height and weight) of your baby will be measured. In addition, speech and motor skills are monitored and the diet and behavior are discussed. The doctor will take care of the physical examination.
First visit to the consultation office
In the first week and in the second week after the birth of your baby, the clinic will take a home visit. This is done by the youth nurse. Four weeks after the birth you will visit the health center for the first time. This will also be the first time you meet the doctor. He or she will perform a physical examination with your baby. During your appointment you can ask all your questions about the baby itself or parenthood. Do not forget to take the growth book with you during this visit!
Other consultations office
Many of the visits will be planned on the basis of the vaccination schedule. With each visit, the growth and weight of your baby is noted, a physical examination continues and you discuss the developments.
You can expect the following about appointments:
- Four weeks: first visit
- 2 months: first inoculation, HIB and DKTP vaccination
- 3 months: second HIB and DKTP vaccination
- 4 months: third HIB and DKTP vaccination

Consultancy office 2 years control
When your baby is 2 years old, it is actually no longer a baby. The clinic will then increasingly pay attention to the development of language, cleanliness, tooth brushing and also the stopping of the teat or bottle is discussed.
In terms of language development, your child should already be able to make sentences of 2 words. If this is not the case, it may be that you have to come back later or receive exercises. After the 2 year check at the clinic, the next check is when your child is 3 years old. During this visit an eye test will be taken to determine whether your baby sees well, or possibly glasses.
