Lay-out - What possibilities are there for your child?

Saying goodbye is important, even when it comes to a deceased newborn baby. The opbaarperiode gives a few days the opportunity to say goodbye to your child.
You can make the birth of your little angel as personal as you want. Fortunately, there is a lot to choose from nowadays. Do you want the home remake? Or would you prefer that your child be placed in a funeral home?
A deceased person must be refrigerated and a funeral home is fully equipped. But if you want to have your child at home, a special cooling can be installed. A combination is also possible. For example, you can choose to give birth to your child the first day (s) at home and the last days in a funeral home.

Homecare

By giving birth to your child at home, you can look at him the last few days (hours) just as often and talk to him as much as you want. You can take it with you, look at him and photograph extensively. This can be an important step in the grieving process.
This could also be more pleasant for any brothers and sisters. Most children feel more at ease than in a funeral home. It is also easier for family and friends to say goodbye to your child in this way.

Very normal

In the past it was very normal to get home at home. This was followed by a period during which the deceased was transferred to a funeral home as standard. Nowadays a lot is chosen for home-based home.
Homecare is almost always possible. Because a deceased person has to be refrigerated, cooling equipment is used and in the summer an air conditioning can sometimes be installed. Keep in mind that this equipment makes some noise.

Thanatopraxy treatment

Since the introduction of the new law on funeral services, it is possible to get up at home in the Netherlands, without cooling the deceased, but by means of an afteratopraxy treatment. Thanatopraxy is a light embalming which keeps the body beautiful without cooling until the funeral or cremation. It is an ideal method to use in a home-based home because the home cooling is often not optimal.
A nice side effect is the fact that the body does not feel so cold now, when you want to take your child with you. The body also becomes more beautiful in color.
In the Netherlands it is still fairly new, but in neighboring countries like Belgium, Germany, Spain and France it is already being used regularly.
There are not many companies that are involved in this. Where you can get in any case is OZN (Overledenen Zorg Nederland).

Cooling elements

Casket cooling

This is a cooling plate placed in a cart on which the box is placed. The cold pulls through the box bottom.

Invisible

The cooling plate and the trolley are hidden from view by the skirt that is stretched around the trolley. Because the whole thing is on wheels, the cooling can easily be driven to the most suitable place in the room.

Bed cooling

This is a cooling in the form of a half shell that is placed on the mattress. Then the bed is made up normally and the deceased child is placed in the shell.

Funeral center

Of course, you can also decide to start your child in a funeral home. You can decide for yourself which funeral home or mortuary your child needs to be transferred to. The atmosphere and visiting times are not the same everywhere.

Strict visiting times

Some funeral homes have strict visiting times that do not deviate. Also, extra costs are sometimes charged when people visit more often than once, or visit outside the official times. It is advisable to inform in advance.
Also in a funeral home it is possible to make the experience more personal. You can use flowers, candles, a private rug, stuffed animals, toys in or around the box or basket. In a funeral home it is usually also possible to decorate the collectable area during the visit time itself with flowers, candlesticks, candles and other personal items.

No upbringing

Of course you can also choose not to brag your baby. Your child can stay in the fridge of a hospital and later be transported to a funeral center to be appointed by you.
One reason for this choice could be that your child is quickly discolored by a lot of medication or that your child is 'battered' by medical care - you want to keep remembering him, as he was. Incidentally, in that case you can also decide that your child is indeed being placed but that the box remains closed. In short, you are the one who determines what you want.

Care

If your child is deceased, he will receive one last treatment. Often this is no more than a symbolic wash. Then your baby gets clean clothes. You can choose to have this last treatment in the nursing room of the funeral home, but you can also choose to do this yourself, at home or in the funeral home. You can also do it together with a funeral director, with or without other family members. All variants are actually possible.

Favorite clothes

You decide which clothes your baby gets. Maybe your baby already had favorite clothes, maybe you want to buy new clothes especially for him after his death, or maybe you have a dress that has a special feeling? In short, here again everything is possible and you can decide for yourself.

Memories

Tangible memories of your deceased child are precious gems. Some suggestions can be:

  • Photos (only, in your arms, with the whole family, detail photos of hands, feet, face, with family, brothers and / or sisters, in his cradle or coffin, et cetera)
  • Video footage
  • Foot and handprints in plaster or paint
  • Keep a diary during the days around the death of your child (other family members or visitors can - if desired - also write a piece)
  • Clothes, hats, socks, et cetera that your child has worn

If the death of your child has taken place in the hospital, you can also request name cards or tapes and lists and recordings.

Tips

To avoid any unpleasant odors, you can burn incense sticks or scented candles if you wish. Ground coffee also absorbs any unpleasant odors
