Quality requirements for the baby

The baby equipment (from accessory to the design of the baby room) must - for the safety of your baby - meet certain quality requirements. Which are these, we have set out here.

Crib

A cradle at least 30 centimeters deep, 45 cm wide and 80 cm long. A cavity bottom is the most suitable because it ventilates best. There should be no sharp edges or points on the cradle, especially check wicker or rattan cradles on this. A cradle must stand firmly so that it does not tip over when an older child is hanging on it. With a rocking cradle the rocking mechanism must be able to be blocked. The upholstery must be firmly fixed and preferably of terry or cotton, do not use a cushion-like lining because it does not ventilate enough. Note that the sky does not hang in the cradle. A baby can sleep in a crib between 3 and 6 months. If your child can pull himself up or sit, then the cradle should no longer be used. If there are bars at the cradle, the distance between the bars must be between 4.5 and 6.5 cm. The walls must be well air-permeable. There must be no cords and other loose things in the cradle.

Bed

A bed should be at least 120 centimeters long and 60 cm wide. The distance between the bars must be between 4.5 and 6.5 cm and the bars must run to the bottom. If the bottom is adjustable, the minimum distance in the lowest position must be 60 cm and in the highest position 30 cm. A child can sleep up to 3-4 years in a bedstead, if your child has less than 20 cm in length, the bed is too small. If you want to use the bed for a long time, buy a bedstead where the side wall can be opened, so that the child can step out of his bed. The best choice is a slatted base because it ventilates best. A bottom must be firm and must not sag.

Mattress

A mattress must be at least 8 cm thick, between the mattress and the bed sides should not be more than 2 cm. An inner spring mattress contains a lot of air, which is good for ventilation. Preferably use a polyether mattress. There must be a cotton cover around the mattress, do not use a plastic cover in connection with mold formation. The mattress must not be too soft.

Chest of drawers

A chest of drawers is not necessarily necessary, another cupboard or worktop can do a great job. Note that a changing table or worktop has a working height of 90 cm. The top should be at least 75 cm wide and 60 cm deep. The sides and back must have a minimum edge of 3 cm.

Bottles

Whether you opt for a plastic or glass bottle is a personal choice. Make sure that the bottle has a smooth inner wall, otherwise it is very difficult to clean. After each feeding, a bottle must be thoroughly cleaned with a special brush, which is therefore only used for the bottles, and is called suds. Rinse the bottle thoroughly with clean hot water and let it drain in a dry place. Once a day, a bottle has to be boiled for 3 minutes.

Weaning

Each new teat must be boiled before use, and during use the teat must be boiled for 3 minutes once a day. Special microwave sterilizers are also available for purchase. Silicone spikes are heat resistant and can be used in the dishwasher, the material is less porous than rubber and will therefore collect less bacteria. A teat must be replaced every six weeks. There are teats in dental form and cherry shape. The dental form promotes the development of the jaw and the palate. The icecream is round and mimics the nipple. If a baby is used to a certain form, he will not easily switch to another form.

Make your bed

For safety reasons, it is advisable to make up the bottom half of a bedstead, in such a way that the baby can touch the foot end with the feet and can not lie under the covers. Blanket and sheet reach to the shoulders.
First place a mattress protector over the mattress, then a sheet that should never be under the headboard. Then a bottom sheet and a hydrophilic diaper at the height of the head. Then make up the bottom half with a top sheet and 1 or 2 blankets. Do not use a duvet for the first 2 years because it is too hot and can cause suffocation. Do not put the blankets in a duvet cover, this is too hot.

Clothing

Wash your baby clothes (40 degrees). Do not use fabric softener in connection with possible hypersensitivity.
