Mama Mia! Here we go again!

The first Mamma Mia! dates from 2008. That is no less than 10 years ago. At the moment I received the DVD 'Mamma Mia! Here we go again 'in my hands, I have never had the intention to watch the first film. No idea why not, probably it just did not happen. In order to be able to make a good comparison and assessment, I decide to start watching the film. If only to see Meryl Streep shining ...

Mamma Mia!

The film has pleasantly surprised me. Already at the first notes I am taken to my time as a little girl, a time where I played back on the music of ABBA and did dances with my girlfriends. A time when my room was full of ABBA posters and where every music magazine that contained ABBA had to be purchased. The music brought me back in time. I could be just as little again.

The story is paper thin. That is no different because there is a story devised around known hits of ABBA. That is a bit of fitting, measuring and puzzling. However, it is amply compensated by the music and the players. Meryl Streep I know from films like 'The Devil wears Prada', 'She-Devil' and 'Sophie's choice'. In Mamma Mia! she knows how to create a completely different personality, but at least as credible. It is a pleasure to watch and after the delicious ending I stay with my smile on my lips for a while. I enjoyed it.

Music spectacle

So it will be a big push for 'Mama Mia! Here we go again! ' to exceed this feeling. Maybe that's why they have needed 10 years to come up with this sequel. But it becomes absolute, absolutely. It is again one big sing, laugh and dance spectacle. Obviously full of hits from ABBA and that very piece of nostalgic cosiness makes the film. I fall back in time, the time that my room was lilac colored and the walls were covered with posters. I can be just as small again and let the positive boost of the film resonate to my core. I feel completely charged afterwards. Delicious.

Just like in Mamma Mia! The Movie we see Oscar winner Meryl Streep as Donna, Julie Walters as Rosie and Christine Baranski as Tanya. Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper return as Sophie and Sky, while Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard and Colin Firth play Sam, Bill and Harry again; the three possible fathers of Sophie. In this film we also go back in time and we see how relations from the present came about. Lily James plays the role of the young Donna.

This film is another film that makes you happy, which gives you a good feeling, of which you will sing and dance. Top!
