Most babies do agree: colic. Especially in the period between the middle of the first month and the fourth month. In itself nothing to worry about, but for your baby is of course painful and annoying. He will cry more often, especially just after feeding. He can kick his leg and his head can turn red. You may even feel his belly bubbling. The peak of colic is usually about 6 to 8 weeks.
Symptoms of colic
Crying, bitching with the legs, red head and his hands are clenched into fists.
When your child cries all day, constantly moans, spits (green, yellow or bloody), you notice a change in stool and / or is struggling with a bad weight gain (or even falls off), please consult your doctor. Maybe something else is going on, then innocent intestinal cramps.
What causes colic?
The gastrointestinal tract is not fully developed in young babies. His digestive organs still have to get used to digesting food. Colitis can also occur due to the air that your child will eat during the feeding. It may be that he drinks too greedily or because there is air in the trowel. When you breastfeed, certain products you eat can also cause colic in your child.
Most children have four months, fortunately no longer suffer from colic. From that moment on, his gastrointestinal tract is sufficiently developed.
How can you prevent it?
It is not completely prevented, but you can take into account a few things:
1) Do not allow your child to drink too quickly; take the time for his food (15-20 minutes)
2) Make sure that the teat is always full of milk so that no air can get in
3) Do not shake the bottle too hard
4) Let your baby farm well during and after feeding
5) Consider what you eat when you are breastfeeding. If necessary, keep a diary with products that you eat, to find out what your baby responds most to. Substances that many babies with colic to react to are: coffee, garlic, chocolate, shellfish and carbonated drinks. Take these products into account or even better, try to avoid them completely.

How can you reduce the pain?
Suffering your child is not nice. If he suffers from colic, you can fortunately do something to ease the pain.
1) Give him a nice warm bath
2) Gently massage his tummy (clockwise and start with warm hands)
3) Let him suck on your little finger or pacifier
4) Keep him nice to your body or walk around with him in your arms
5) Place a lukewarm / warm jug (rolled up in a towel) against his belly (not in bed, in connection with heat build-up and make sure the jug is not too hot)
6) Cuddle him, sing for him, try to relax him
7) Make quiet bicycle movements with his legs in the air so that the air can escape from the intestines
Luckily, the colic will eventually pass over again.
